SportsTech in Stockholm
Inspired by the article “Overview of the Nordic SportsTech landscape”, we decided to make a Stockholm SportsTech version.
SportsTech is generally considered as tech and innovation in the sports industry. The sports industry itself is estimated to $1,3 trillion globally, and companies spend $36 Bn in sports advertising per year in the U.S. alone.
It’s no wonder then that SportsTech is receiving a lot of attention in the U.S. and that it is now gaining momentum in Europe. Over 850 SportsTech companies have been mapped in Europe so far, and the list is growing.
Stockholm is a perfect place to bridge tech/innovation and the sports industry.
SportsTech Hub
There is no SportsTech hub in the Nordics, yet. But the closest one would probably be a new project being developed in Kista called Playce. Imagine an apartment building, hotel, office space and a 1,000 sq m2 gym in the middle of it all. The purpose is to bridge business, lifestyle, tech, innovation, R&D, events and much more — all around sports and health.
Playce is currently in development phase with permits approved for construction in an area covering four blocks (23,000 sq m). When finished Stockholm — and the Nordics — will certainly have a hub for sports and innovation.

In Stockholm we identified 20 SportsTech startups. Together they have raised over $10M in funding.
